Possible YouTube shutdown? The government made a clear announcement
ISLAMABAD (Daily Pakistan Online): The federal government has clarified that YouTube is not being blocked in Pakistan.
Dr. Arsalan Khalid, Prime Minister's Focal Person for Digital Media, says that the digital media industry in Pakistan is booming with each passing day, people are creating quality content on YouTube and the number of such people is increasing. Digital publishers and YouTubers need to be encouraged, not stopped.
He said that the ban on YouTube in 2012 proved to be disastrous for the industry. This ban is partly due to the lack of Google, Facebook, and Twitter offices in Pakistan.
According to Dr. Arsalan Khalid, the Supreme Court also wants to improve the regulation of digital media. The Prevention of Cyber Crimes Act has already been negotiated with technology companies.
The Prime Minister's Focal Point clarified that there is no question of shutting down YouTube in Pakistan.
